One midfielder across Europe is currently on the lips of every football fans; Lucas Biglia. The young Argentina international has again seen his stock rise tremendously high following another successful season with Anderlecht. His impressive showings have seen the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid emerge as front runners for his signature as the summer transfer window emerges from behind the cloud.
But, what type of player is the 26-year-old? Very much built in the Fernando Redondo mould, Biglia is a holding midfielder that, although isn’t a tough tackler, is able to pick a pass from distance, much in the same vein as current Real star Xabi Alonso. However, what he lacks in the ability to challenge, his excellent reading of the game certainly makes up for it.
The Gunners aren’t necessarily in market for a player that can spread the ball like the Spanish star, instead often turning to Mikel Arteta for this role, but his addition will certainly bolster the creative options available to manager Arsene Wenger. Nevertheless, often utilised in a midfield pairing in front of the defence, he is certainly built for the system that Jose Mourinho opts for at the Bernabeu.
Nevertheless, the option to move him further forward, despite a lack of goals during his six years in Belgium, nine in the Jupiler Pro League to be precise, would be available to the Frenchman. Now a fully fledged Argentinean international, his arrival in either England or Spain would be a good move for both the player and the club he joins, should he move over the summer.
