Paulo Di Canio is working his magic at The County Ground again after his side got back on track for back to back promotions with the devastating defeat of AFC Bournemouth.
The Robins have stumbled of late after their heroics vs Stoke in the Capital One Cup, however they looked to have put that well and truely to bed with this demolition of the Cherries.
Paulo has said to the Swindon Town website that the side are ‘growing up’ which could be viewed as a sly dig at those players who have been given the boot by the Italian. Players like Paul Caddis and Leon Clarke who Di Canio has had no problem naming and shaming in the media due to their commitment levels and their attitudes.
This is a great thing for the Team though, the players who have stayed on and who are getting the game time have a clear picture in their heads of what is expected from them, what sort of character they must have to fit in with Paulo’s ideal dream team and they are performing also.
So Swindon are up to 5th in the table after this weekends victory and play an old fan favourite tomorrow night : Charlie Austin makes his first return to the County Ground since he famously departed after the Play-Off Final defeat to Millwall.
Can Swindon go straight up again?
A precedent has been set by the likes of Norwich, Southampton and also Wigan a few years ago, where the momentum of success can take you straight through the duldrums of the lower leagues to the big time. It would be a Cinderella story if Di Canio could take the Town all the way back to their 1993/94 heyday in the Premier League in his first managerial post.
Let’s keep our feet on the ground for the moment though and get the job done in League 1. Whatever happens, the fans are loving it so far and they all love Paulo.
