In Wigan’s game against Stoke earlier this, Ali Al-Habsi made what will probably end up being save of the season. Late in the game, Stoke had a free-kick just outside Wigan’s box and up stepped Charlie Adam.
Adam hit the ball well enough but it took a deflection and Al-Habsi was able to shift his body weight in mid-air and get a hand to ball to punch it away, preserving a point for his team.
I have long believed that Al-Habsi is one of the top three goalkeepers in the Premier League and it is only a matter of time until a big club comes calling.
Always such a consistent performer, here are the best bits from his excellent 2011/12 season.
