The East End Pele (Video)

These days Paolo di Canio is a little more subdued as manager of Swindon Town. By his standards anyway.

To say that di Canio is a volatile and passionate individual would be a massive understatement. We all saw his public destruction of his goalkeeper (‘LEAGUE WAN WES!’) and the spontaneous moments of madness and brilliance were very common when he played for West Ham.

Pushing over a referee and rash challenges were offset by numerous displays of skill such as his sublime karate kick volley (you know the one).

This, however, was one of his darkest moments as a Premier League player. Clearly upset with not being awarded a number of penalties throughout West Ham’s encounter with Bradford City in 2000, di Canio stopped playing and demanded to be substituted. Talk about throwing toys out of the pram.
