Arsenal should stick with Wenger until May, at least

A result that shocked the footballing world. A loss that saw many dub the worst in Arsene Wenger’s tenure as manager. Yes, Arsenal fans weren’t exactly jumping with joy following Thomas Vermaelen’s penalty miss at the Coral Windows Stadium that saw them crash out of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening.

Many were calling for the Frenchman to be given the sack following the quarter final exit, regardless of the exploits of the veteran boss during his 16 year, and counting, stint in charge of the Gunners. Yes, there are those that believe Wenger is past his sell by date and the time to show him the Emirates Stadium exit door is long overdue.

Serial Arsenal know-it-all Piers Morgan led the cry on Twitter for the 63-year-old to be given the nudge out of the club, while calling for Pep Guardiola, apparently a ‘good friend’ of Wenger according to tip-top transfer ITK Ian McGarry, to be handed the reins.

A collective cry of laughter could be heard from around the world. Why would Guardiola want to go to Arsenal? This isn’t a stab at the North London side – far from it, in fact – but you have to question why a manager of his capabilities want take over a side devoid of the necessary quality to make them a genuine force in English football once again.

Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp – the names have been thrown around, but would they sacrifice their respective roles at Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund to succeed Wenger? It’s highly unlikely. Who would Arsenal bring in to take over the reins? The list is short, that’s for sure.

Either way, ridding the Frenchman of his role at the club at present would most likely be a backwards step for the Gunners. The best course of action for Arsenal now would be to stick with the veteran boss until May, at least, and reassess over the summer.
