A Word Of Warning For Rodgers (Video)

The days until Daniel Sturridge moves to Liverpool are numbered following his medical on Merseyside but what will Liverpool be getting in January?

It is no secret that Brendan Rodgers’ squad is stretched to breaking point and the Liverpool boss is looking to manage the workload of his top players, particularly young starlet Raheem Sterling as a busy Christmas period approaches.

The fee for the Chelsea man looks set at £12 million, a bargain figure considering some of the huge prices paid by clubs to secure up and coming home-grown talent in recent seasons.

Sturridge is moving away from Stamford Bridge after falling out of favour with former boss Roberto Di Matteo and now interim manager Rafael Benitez. At the start of the 2011/12 season Sturridge was a regular in the first team with Andre Villas-Boas preferring young talent over more established players. Last season was Sturridge’s most successful having made 43 appearances scoring 13 goals and making 7 assists.

The 23 year old has made it clear in the past he would rather play through the middle than as a supporting striker or out on the wing but is willing to do a job for the team. The major criticism that can be levelled at the Englishman is his selfishness. Often having worked some space, wriggled away from his marker or with an easy pass on he opts for glory himself. Brendan Rodgers needs to be careful to make Sturridge a team player rather than a less good version of Luis Suarez.
