Swansea’s Summer Bargain (Video)

It is unanimous in deciding that Swansea City’s Miguel Michu is the signing of the season but why wasn’t he snapped up by a bigger club?

Miguel Perez Cuesta, more simply Michu, joined new Swansea manager Michael Laudrup this summer in a bargain £2 million deal from Spanish side Rayo Vallecano. In his only season with Rayo, the 2011/12 campaign, Michu scored an impressive 15 goals in 37 La Liga games.

The unofficial title of ninth top scorer was awarded to Michu but more remarkably for a league containing the likes of Andres Iniesta and Angel Di Maria he was the league’s highest scoring midfielder.

Swansea boss Laudrup signed Michu as the man to play ‘in the hole’ between midfield and the striker but so far the Spaniard has adapted well to playing up top himself scoring 12 league goals already. As for problems adapting to the physicality and pace of the Premier League, something foreign imports often struggle with, there have been no signs of any problems.

The lack of a winter break in England might have an effect on Michu’s form and fitness as fatigue takes over in the second half of the season but Swansea looked to have found a bargain in a league dominated by Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Sir Alex Ferguson had to admit this weekend “I had never even heard of him” but he definitely has now after he scored against Manchester United in a 1-1 draw.
