When I read the news the West Brom could be ready to let Graham Dorrans leave the club this month, not only was I a little bit shocked, but I was also in a reflective mood after it made me think about what had happen to one of the brightest prospects on the Baggies’ books.
Back when Dorrans was breaking into the first team, the whole country was keeping their eye on the youngster and he was the target of a number of big-money bids from the Premier League, including a £6m offer from Manchester City, but West Brom kept hold of him and he established himself as a key-player.
I have always been a sucker for a long-range goal and cannot help but applaud a well-hit shot so Dorrans has always been a favourite of mine. The way he can ping a ball is also something I admire, and although he doesn’t always make the biggest impact on games, when he does something special you know about it.
It is a shame that Dorrans never really got the chances at West Brom that he perhaps deserved, but after their impressive rise this season maybe a move away from the Hawthorns could be the factor which rekindles the form he showed a number of seasons ago. I am sure that a number of lower-end Premier League teams will be looking into the possibility of signing the Scotland international, but if that fails to prosper then there will be a string of Championship clubs lining up to secure his signature.
