Sam Allardyce has secured the sevices of striker Wellington until the end of the season, but does this mean the end of Ricardo Vaz Te at Upton Park?
There is no doubting the Portuguese forward’s talent in front of goal, his strike in the 87th minute of the play-off final in May was the goal that ultimately sent the Hammers to the Premier League, but he his reputation for missing sitters could spell the end of his time at the club.
Vaz Te has appeared in 9 Premier League games this campaign and also featured for an hour in West Ham‘s FA Cup tie against Manchester United, but with Carlton Cole, Modibo Maiga and now Wellington Paulista amongst the strikers competing for a starting spot, chances will become even more limited and could force him out of the club.
The 28-year-old Brazilian Paulista has already score 19 goals this season for his current side Cruzeiro and will not be joining the Irons to occupy a space on the bench. He is a typical South American player who injects skill and flash touches to his game but also knows where the back of the net is, which his goal-scoring record suggests, and will provide a different option to what Sam Allardyce currently has at his disposal.
Fat Sam has carried a hoof-ball reputation for almost the entirety of his managerial career and but with the signings of Paulista and Joe Cole this week suggests that he is trying to shrug that off.
