Liverpool Don’t Lack Fight

Liverpool boss has been forced to defend his side following the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. Liverpool were outplayed by United in the first half until a goal on the hour from substitute Daniel Sturridge mark sparked a unsuccessful second half revival.

In recent years Liverpool have been drifting further and further away from the top 4 sides in the Premier League but Rodgers believes his side are able to compete with the top sides and aren’t worthy of being described as ‘soft’.

Joe Allen, in particular, has come in for criticism following a poor performance at Old Trafford but the diminutive midfielder is key to Rodger’s plans even if he is not a brute flexing his muscles in the midfield.

“Aggression isn’t about having a 6ft 3ins player in the middle of the field who is going to drive you forward, aggression is in the mind,” said Rodgers.

“We have Steven Gerrard, who is one of the best examples of that in this country over the last 10 years.

“We have that aggression but it is not about what size you are, it is about the fight which is in there.

“In the second half the ability to fight was much better and we were much more aggressive in our play and attitude and we should have got something.”
