Transfer Target – Massadio Haidara (Video)

There is no shortage of players being linked with Newcastle United this January as the Magpies aim to add their thin squad in an attempt to climb the Premier League table in the second half of a season they have so far struggled in.

Reports in Wednesday’s paper are Newcastle have made a £2 million bid for Nancy defender Massadio Haidara. French under 21 international Haidara recently told a French radio station Newcastle do appeal to me, but everyone has to agree.

“I would be very happy to play there. My preference is England. It is the league which attracts me the most and would suit my game the best.”

Although earlier in the week the left sided defender had said “I prefer Roma to Newcastle, as I prefer Serie A”.

“I’d love to play in Italy, though Newcastle are also a good team.

“I know that my agent has spoken to both clubs, we’ll see what happens.”

It seems the 20 year old, who made his debut in 2010 for the Ligue 1 side, is uncertain where he will be playing when the January transfer window closes but he certainly would be a welcome addition to Alan Pardew’s squad at St James Park.

Davide Santon is the only left sided defender in the Newcastle squad and Haidara will put the Italian under pressure for his place in the side.

The Frenchman, who came through the Nancy youth team, is similar player to Santon, enjoying forward runs down the left side but can also play as a defensive midfielder if called upon.
