Hughton Needs To Take Advantage Of Becchio Dispute

Chris Hughton has made no bones about his lack of transfer funds for a striker this January but there is one man in the Championship he could get for a relative bargain considering the quality he can bring.

The man in question? Leeds United’s Luciano Becchio. The big Argentine is going through a bit of a contract dispute with the Elland Road club and has seen 2 bids from foreign clubs rejected but Norwich City could offer the top flight football and higher wages Becchio is after.

Becchio has 2 years left on his contract with Leeds and the Yorkshire club are reportedly ready to offer a new contract with a pay rise up to £20,000 a week but if Norwich can get in there before anybody puts pen to paper then they may well bag a top quality striker.

There is no doubting Becchio’s firepower, since arriving at Leeds in 2008 form Spanish side Merida he has banged in 86 goals in 221 appearances in all competitions. Having spent 2 seasons in League One finding the net regularly Becchio found no difficulty in stepping up to Championship level when Leeds were promoted in 2010.

So far this season Becchio has scored 16 goals in 25 games and could prove a bargain if The Canaries were to swoop for the classy Argentinean to add some finesse a side that will still be worrying about relegation.
