Does Gouffran hold the key to Newcastle success?
Newcastle United fans have heralded the French signings made in January as saving their season. Moussa Sissoko has been the one most lauded by the fans.
Is the £1.5 million signing from Bordeaux in the shape of Yoan Gouffran the most crucial signing of them all.
There has been tentative talk of Newcastle being drawn back into a relegation fight following their defeat at Swansea, as the attack appears not to be fully in gear.
A large amount of the responsibility falls down to Papiss Cisse who will determine whether the Magpies can thrive in the Europa League and a gain a respectable finish in the Premier League but he needs support.
A lot of discussion this campaign has been centred around the incompatibility of Cisse and Ba and this was for a reason.
There was nobody to do all the dirty jobs and the essential running and niggly play to provide a selfish striker chances on a plate to put away.
In the 2011/12 campaign Ba thrived off the service from Leon Best as did Andy Carroll before him and the Magpies finally have found a player in Gouffran to fulfill the Best role.
He also has the added bonus of having pace and whilst his composure in front of goal could do with some work, he won’t be stealing any other strikers limelight soon, which is essential for squad harmony and success.
