After news emerged that Ryan Giggs had signed a new contract with Manchester United last week, football fans were full of praise for the Welshman. After netting in every Premier League season since its 1992 inception, the plaudits were raining in on the 39-year-old.
With Giggs now expected to play on until he’s 40, United fans are excited about seeing the former Wales international take to the field for his 1000th senior competitive appearance on Tuesday night. Many had expected to see the Premier League veteran reach the figure against Norwich City on Saturday, but manager Sir Alex Ferguson opted against fielding the midfielder in the 4-0 win.
As a result, Giggs is now supposedly set to play against Real Madrid on Tuesday night as United host Real Madrid in the Champions League. The field is set for him to reach the impressive milestone, which will only be added to over the next 12 months.
The tie is all but scripted to for Giggs to net the winner on the grandest of stages, especially with the two legged affair hanging in the balance following the 1-1 draw between the two sides at the Bernabeu.
It’s fair to say the player is close to becoming one of the games most highly decorated footballers. 33 trophies in his career says a lot about the player and it will only be added this season, with United set to add the Premier League and possibly the FA Cup and Champions League to their trophy cabinet before the end of the year.
