Portsmouth’s Fratton Park hasn’t been the happiest of places recently. The South coast side are almost certainly heading for their third relegation in just under five years.
But last Saturday did bring some well needed smiles to the Pompy faithful as the team managed their first win since October 20th 2012.
This win came at Gresty Road against a steady Crewe Alexandra side, 2-1 was the final score with David Connolly and Patrick Agyemang grabbing the goals.
Portsmouth still remain rock bottom of League one 11 points adrift of safety with ten games remaining. Sounds do-able?
Well, amazingly on the 10th February Pompey celebrated their one year administration anniversary. As soon as they exit administration they’ll be deducted a gut wrenching 10 points – effectively leaving Portsmouth 21 points adrift of safety. Still do-able?
League two is quite a difference for a club that only four years ago were competing in, what was then, the UEFA Cup. A club that just over five years ago won the FA Cup and had players like Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Lassana Diarra, Sulley Muntari and K.P Boateng to name but a few.
Oh how times have changed, the only memory Pompey have of the glory days is Portuguese defender Ricardo Rocha, who has become a firm fans favourite.
No matter what happens, Portsmouth will always have their famous support and be it in the Premier league or in League two, the Fratton Faithful will continue to sing.
