Andre Villas-Boas was surprisingly unfazed at the end of January when Tottenham failed to secure a centre forward that everyone around White Hart Lane desperately craved.
At the same time he also made a crucial decision in rejecting a bid in the region of £10 million from Reading for Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The latter call now appears to be paying huge dividends. Lewis Holtby may provide the Icelandic international fierce competition but that may have finally made him step up to the plate.
It has taken him 6 months to adapt but he has worked out his surroundings at White Hart Lane and desperately started to produce the goods when needed.
AVB has been questioned at several points this season but this show of faith is certainly more of what Tottenham need.
If they are to break back into the Champions League once more you suspect that Adebayor won’t play much of a role.
Sigurdsson just behind Defoe though could be pivotal in ensuring that the side are successful.
Holtby may start some games instead to keep the squad rotated but whilst Gareth Bale may be grabbing all the headlines, in Sigurdsson they may well just have a trump card.
