If you believe the Sunday Mirror, Spurs are ready to splash £20m for the services of Aston Villa hot-shot Christian Benteke when the season comes to a close.
The Belgian has taken the Premier League by storm this year by gobbling goals for the entire campaign, and now his tally is on 23 and Aston Villa looking likely to secure their topflight status for next year, the club’s hierarchy will be tested to the limit with a big money offer from Andre Villas-Boas and his merry band of backroom staff.
The White Hart Lane outfit have have a solid season and can still secure a Champions League spot for next season, but with Gareth Bale supposedly on his way out and Emmanuel Adebayor reportedly heading back to France, AVB is desperate for a proven goalscorer to compete with Jermain Defoe for the single striker role he prefers.
Now, he may have only been prolific in his one season he has been in the country, but to score that amount of goals he has for a club who have struggled so badly tells you all you need about the 22-year-old.
The quality of goals is also something that fans across the country have appreciated. Benteke can score from anywhere on the pitch and with any part of his body.
Perhaps he could take up a defenders’ squad number should a move to north London to try and levee some of the abuse that Clint Dempsey has received for wearing the number two shirt.
