Manchester United ready to say goodbye to star forward (Video)

After Wayne Rooney handed in a transfer request in October 2010, before hastily changing his mind a few days later to sign a new five year deal, most of us presumed that we would be witnessing the striker hanging up his boots at the end of his career at Old Trafford. The situation has changed quite dramatically in the past few days, as he was left out of the squad for Sir Alex Ferguson’s final home game in charge against Swansea. The boss then informed the media that ‘Wazza’ had once again told the club that he wanted to leave.

This time there is no way back and the supporters who gave him the benefit of the doubt last time were almost definitely joining in with the boos that rang around the stadium as he went to collect his winners medal. Tired of his poor attitude and performances, the majority would now prefer to see him sold and the money reinvested. Robin van Persie has had a fantastic first season in Manchester and leads the scoring charts with 25 goals. Due to the Dutchman’s reliability to put the ball in the net, Rooney has regularly been left on the bench or played as a supporting midfielder. Since signing for the club back in 2004 he has always been the main man and the situation in which he now finds himself is completely alien to him. His ex-manager, David Moyes, is now about to be reunited with the teenage prodigy that he sold whilst at Everton, but even this seems unlikely to change the decision made by the striker. First team football is what he wants and he may need to look abroad to find a club capable of satisfying his demands.
