Why would anyone want the vacant Stoke job?

I’m not the biggest fan of Stoke City, but I do find them fascinating. Last week I wrote an almost diary type of blog about Stoke City (Read here) and received some ‘honest’ replies from some Potters fans.

Now, me ‘praying’ Stoke City get relegated next season was how I felt last week. I felt Pulis had taken the club too far and that the team are now on a steadily declining slope. I explained that Pulis deserved a better job at a bigger club, in jest (which some people didn’t realise).

Nonetheless it was yesterday confirmed that everyone’s favourite West country chav will be departing the club this week, devastated.

Despite the angry little man’s quite stale and outdated tactics, I did love having him around. Yeah his football wasn’t quite what I wanted to see, but he was a good laugh, interview-wise.

This did get me thinking though, who and why would anyone want to take over the mess Pulis has left Stoke City in?

With players like Jerome, Adam, Whelan, Etherington, Shotton and Walters, Pulis hasn’t made it easy for anyone to drag themselves to the Britannia.

Here are a few names the tabloids have touted as Pulis’ successor:

  • Rafa Benitez
  • Roberto Di Matteo
  • Roberto Mancini
  • Gus Poyet
  • Jose Mourinho

I then came up with my own more realistic list:

  • Steve Kean
  • Terry Connor
  • Alan Curbishley
  • Mark Hughes
  • Paul Hart
  • Henning Berg

The second list is much more around Stoke City’s level.

Anyway, good luck to the Potters next season,

Regards,
