Arsene Wenger is now the longest serving manager in the Premier League and the entire league as a whole but I’m led to ask the question is it time for him to go?
This is not due to me having a sly punt on Paul Tisdale being the league’s longest serving manager going into next season… well not totally.
I have the Frenchman’s best interests at heart, I feel now might be the right time for him to cut his losses and take one of the many opportunities that will doubtless arrive during this summer’s stick or twist management game.
There’s every likelihood that if he saw fit to make himself available he would be a candidate for jobs at Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City and Monaco.
All four would provide him with the opportunity to buy the very best players in the world and to compete for the biggest club prizes; no disrespect to Arsenal but this is something that they are unable to offer.
Although Wenger has a year left on his contract and is renowned for not breaking agreements, don’t Arsenal owe him the opportunity to have a real shot at winning things.
He has clearly toed the party line in recent years, never rocking the boat and always taking responsibility in regards to the clubs spending power.
Although it appears obvious to outsiders that the requisite funds haven’t been available to strengthen when required, the manager has never sought to use this as an excuse for his side’s deficiencies.
He has taken criticism and abuse from pundits and supporters alike, all proclaiming to know better than he does.
His record at the club speaks for itself but his legacy is slowly being compromised for reasons that may have little to do with his talents as a manager.
His loyalty deserves repayment and Arsenal should now allow him to for once to look after number one and do what’s best for Arsene Wenger.
