Where are they now – former Manchester City striker

It was kind of retro seeing the Brazil striker in the Confederations Cup, I think I may even miss seeing him on a regular basis, then it got me wondering where the bloomin’ hell he went.

I remember him at CSKA Moscow and having an impressive career in Russia and I believe he scored fourteen times in his first eighteen appearances for Moscow and I remember a game at the San Siro in which he scored in, but ended up losing 4-2 in the Champions League. Jo appeared in just under eighty games for CSKA and scored forty four times and in 2008 it got him a move to Manchester City, who were just in the beginning of their new found money, I believe that’s when they signed Craig Bellamy and Stephen Ireland started to emerge as an amazing player, but unfortunately tailed off. Jo was Manchester City’s record transfer fee at the time, although the actual amount they paid CSKA for him is undisclosed so I may have just completely made that fact up, even though for a while it seemed every signing City made, it would “smash” their transfer record.

It wasn’t exactly an easy time at Manchester City for Jo. He ended up joining Everton in 2009 on loan and scored a brace in his first game for the Toffees and scored five in twelve for the season, but did miss Everton’s cup run after appearing for Manchester City earlier in the season for about 10 minutes as a substitute, gutted. He was loaned once again to Everton the following season with an option to buy at the end of the loan deal, but that was scuppered when he left his domestic duties to return to Brazil and was suspended by David Moyes, Everton manager. This led to him returning to City and being loaned to Galatasaray within hours of going back to Manchester. I remember a game in 2010 where City demolished Fulham and won 4-1, then it’s kind of grey and I don’t really know what happened to him, I know he went to Internacional and now he’s at Athletico Mineiro…

I miss him and his wacky big hair, dearly.
