More Of The Same For Plymouth Argle As They Slump To Opening Day Defeat

Having survived one of the worst declines in Football League history – enduring financial troubles, resulting in administration, and only just successfully avoiding the drop to non-league football on the final day of last season, Plymouth Argyle needed to set an early benchmark for the coming season.  However, a Barry Corr tap-in ensured that league rivals Southend United came out on top at their home ground, 1-0.

Southend have been struggling with financial difficulties of their own recently, so it would have been a big boost for their manager Phil Brown and the rest of their team.

Argyle shouldn’t be too disappointed with the score, as despite their troubles, Southend are still aiming for a top-eight finish.  They finished 11th last season, and are aiming to improve over the coming seasons.

Under the management of John Sheridan, Argyle should be aiming for an major improvement on last season’s position, and could be looking at a mid-table finish.  They have also made some good summer transfers, such as Marvin Morgan and Dominic Blizzard.  Plymouth have a great fan base, as they are just one of three teams in that play league football in the South West of England.  The fans must continue to show faith in their team, but as you would expect, the players must perform well on the pitch in return.

I have high hopes for Plymouth Argyle this season, and I hope that this season their fortunes will change.  I believe that there is a lot of expectation on the players shoulders, but they need to use this as an extra incentive to perform better than they did last season.
