Serie A legend could call time on career

Next year could be the year that a legend may retire, and that man is former Juventus Captain and frontman Alessandro Del Piero. Or could it?

The Italian World Cup winner will go into the Australian A-League at the age of 38 and will be looking to perform as he did when he first touched down in Sydney last year. At present, he is at Padova where his glittering football career first started 20 years ago.

He spent 19 seasons with Italian Champions Juventus and had also won a world cup trophy in the process with the Italian national side. For the Bianconeri he has scored over 200 goals in 513 appearances and for the national side has 91 caps and 27 goals.

If Del Piero were to retire he would create a legendary legacy to a great footballer of 90’s era. If he was to go on for another season, he will no doubt be a show stopper in my book as he is still deadly from dead ball situations and free kicks.

I can proudly say that I had the opportunity to meet Il Pinturricchio and it will be a moment that I will never forget. A true gentleman and all round footballer that has the words of a poet for any footballer.

Del Piero has been on the scoresheet with Sydney FC 14 times in 24 matches.
