Newcastle Looking To Loan Chelsea Striker, But Is He What They Need To Improve Their Performances?

Seven months is a long time in football. Back in January an in-form Demba Ba completed his switch to Chelsea in an attempt to spark a faltering Fernando Torres and fire the Blues to a title. However, with Romelu Lukaku returning from his loan stint at West Brom and Samuel Eto’o supposedly on his way into the club, Alan Pardew is looking at regaining the services of the Senegalese frontman, according to the Mirror. But is he what is needed at St James’ Park to rejuvenate the Geordies?

Pardew’s tactical naiveness has been exposed in recent months and his preference to get the ball up the pitch as quickly as possible has backfired somewhat. Not only does the direct approach completely disregard the wealth of technical ability they have in the middle, but it also means the frontmen have to adapt as there is no natural width at the club.

Demba Ba is more than capable in the air, which could prove to be a huge benefit to the goals tally. His strength also allows him to receive the ball to feet and push defenders out of the positions while his agility keeps opponents guessing what he is going to do.

Last season for the Blues Ba scored just twice in 14 Premier League games, hit the target with 58% of his shots and created an uninspiring eight chances.

The acquisition of Ba, on paper, seems a shrewd move. Although he and Papiss Cisse didn’t always work efficiently with one another, Loic Remy is now at the club and the trio have all the makings of a frontline to drag Newcastle up the league, although looking at the larger picture you’d have to say a change of style is needed most.
