Scouting Report: The Barcelona Defender Supposedly Open To Arsenal Or Liverpool Move

Arsenal and Liverpool are set to go to loggerheads over Barcelona full-back Martin Montoya, if you believe the reports from the Express. Not only would the winner be securing the services of a fine defender with massive potential, but they’d be signing him on a free transfer as the Spaniard is out of contract at the end of the season. But just how good is Montoya?

Well, he’s not been able to establish himself at the Nou Camp as of yet as Dani Alves continues his displays in the right-back berth – a reason contributing to the desire to leave, apparently.

He did manage to get 15 La Liga games under his belt last term, though, and got on the score sheet in one of those. His pass accuracy stood at 91%, the eighth best at the club, and he completed four defensive actions per game, on average.

The 22-year-old is at the stage of his career that he needs to be playing, and when you’re at a club of Barcelona’s stature, unless your name is Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta or Xavi, game time isn’t something that’s promised to you.

Montoya is an incredible technically-able right-back who can also be deployed on the left and has 36 appearances to his name for the Blaugrana first team. As well as 75 games for Barcelona B, the Gava-born defender has played 22 times for the U21 Spain squad and has represented Catalonia on two occasions.

To see him in the Premier League would be fantastic, in my opinion, whichever club he potentially chose. This clip gives you a brief outline of just how good he is.
