3 Bundesliga Players Arsenal Should Be Looking At – The Statistics

Arsene Wenger must love a German. Mesut Ozil’s big money signing on deadline day made him the sixth player to hail from Germany, so I thought I would put together an additional three for the Frenchman to have a look at. Come on Arsene, I know you’re reading.

1) Ilkay Gundogan – Borussia Dortmund

The Germany international is one of my favourite players on the planet and I would love it if he arrived in the Premier League. Gundogan played 29 Bundesliga games last term and scored three goals, but it was his passing that had the Signal Iduna Park purring.

He completed 87% of his passes, created 18 chances for his team-mates and claimed three assists. He also won 80% of his tackles and 64% of his take ons. This season he’s played just one game but he mustered four defensive actions and a 100% duel completion.

2) Oliver Sorg – Freiburg

With Bacary Sagna’s future at the Emirate unsure, and Carl Jenkinson’s ability being questioned by some, a little bit of competition could provide Wenger with a pleasant headache should he sign 23-year-old Oliver Sorg. He is able to play on either side of the defence and has started brilliantly for the Black Forest Club. In his four Bundesliga games this season he has made 18 tackles, 19 interceptions and 17 clearances.

Get him in, Wenger.

3) Stefan Kießling – Bayer Leverkusen

The lanky German deserves a shot in the Premier League, in my opinion, and one who can promise him Champions League football as he is at Leverkusen. The Bundesliga side take on Manchester United in this year’s Champions League group stages which will give spectators a chance to see what he’s made of.

Statistics provided by Squawka.

He finished top scorer in the German topflight last season with 25 goals in 34 games, and he’s still only 29 despite seemingly being around forever. He also created 65 opportunities last season, and seven this season, as well as scoring twice in his first four games.
