The futures of some Tottenham players have been thrown in doubt, and if you believe talkSPORT then you’ll be expecting both Lewis Holtby and Sandro to be on the radar of Serie A side Roma. It seems extraordinary that Andre Villas-Boas would let either of the pairing go, although it’s not like Spurs are in any shortage of central midfielders. But just how important are the couple to Spurs?
Although both have struggled with injury for the vast majority of their recent campaigns, they both hold the facility to be major players at White Hart Lane.
The way Sandro sits in the anchorman role and dictates possession is alluring to watch, as is his extrovert personality off of it. Last season the Brazilian played 22 games for Spurs, scoring once and creating 22 chances for his team-mates. He completed 86% of his passes and contributed an average of eight defensive actions per game.
Holtby managed just 11 since his move from Schalke in January but did enough to impress the north London faithful, sculpting 12 chances and completed 84% of his passes. His creativity and awareness on the ball has seen his popularity soar at Spurs, and, in my opinion, will prove to be a cracking little player for the club.
I hope both players stay in the Premier League and continue to flourish. It’s not as if Spurs need the money, either.
