Why Bundesliga ace who averages 95 passes per game would be perfect for Manchester United

Over the years Manchester United have housed some of the most established central midfield players in world football. The likes of Paul Scholes, Roy Keane and, err Sebastian Veron… But there have also been players that they have been linked with consistently – Wesley Sniejder springs to mind, as does Bastian Schweinsteiger, and it’s the latter which I think David Moyes should go all out to sign in January or at the end of the season.

Okay, how realistic this is hasn’t come into my mind, after all,  Bayern Munich are possibly the strongest team in the world. But that could also work to United’s advantage.

The Germany international has been instrumental for the Bavarians so far already this season despite the season only being five games old. He has averaged 95 passes per game – the most in the Bundesliga – and has accumulated a pass success of 90.3%.

He’s scored a goal, made nine tackles and won 14/23 of his headed duels.

A midfield trio of Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Schweinsteiger would be perfect. With Carrick the deep-lying playmaker, Fellaini driving forward and picking possession up from the air, the 31-year-old German could take up the role that Scholes gave up with his retirement, keeping things running with his technical facility and awareness on the ball.

He still has a contract at the Allianz until 2016 and is still a key player at the club so, as I said, there’s probably little chance of it happening. But with a little bit of ear bending and a flash of the cash you never know what could happen.

What do you reckon United fans?
