A lot was said upon the German’s arrival. Those who had watched Dortmund’s youth when Eisfeld and Mario Gotze were members would say that actually the former was more talented than the latter. The only thing that stopped Eisfeld pipping Gotze to a first team place was the fact that Thomas suffered a horrific injury that kept him out of action for a long period of time.
The German arrived with the reputation of being quite a prolific goal scorer for someone in his position. He scored 6 goals in 12 games before his arrival at Arsenal midway through the 2011/2012 season. Since the 08/09 season he has scored 51 goals and provided a further 10 assists in 125 games for a variety of different age groups including the U17’s at Dortmund right up to the Arsenal first team. His most active was definitely the 10/11 season in which he featured in 40 games in all competitions, scoring 14 and assisting 4.
He demonstrated his clinical nature in Arsenal’s 3rd round League Cup against West Brom on Wednesday night in which he scored the Gunners only goal. However, his overall performance was a little disappointing though considering the excitement surrounding him.
He’s still just 20 years old and that means he still has a lot of time to learn, however, a loan deal to a Premier League is probably best for the player if he wants a future at Arsenal.
