We’ve now seen a large chunk of the Premier League and all have our favourites for the title, favourites for the drop and everything in between. For me, Manchester City are the potential league winners, as long as they sort their dodgy away record out, and there is one man key to the challenge, in my eyes. Edin Dzeko. Here are 3 reasons as to why I think he can fire City to the silverware.
1) Pelle-gleaming
Under Roberto Mancini the Bosnian’s confidence was shook. Not only did the Italian gaffer largely overlook Dzeko when it came to starting places, but he didn’t play to his strengths. Now, with a huge kiss of faith from Manuel Pellegrini he is firing on all cylinders.
Last term Dzeko played the full 90 minutes in just 9 league games and still managed 14 goals, but this time around, under new management, he has two goals in five. He has only completed one league game, but he’s spent a lot more time on the pitch and has started the large majority.
2) One man band
As well as being a strong, powerful unit up top who is able to lead the line with maximum efficiency, Dzeko is brilliant in the air and useful with his feet. This season he’s scored one with his head and one with his right foot and completed nearly 80% of his passes.
3) Tactics
The way Pellegrini has urged his players to get the ball wide can only benefit the former Wolfsburg forward. The likes of Jesus Navas, David Silva, Samir Nasri and James Milner whipping balls into him will surely amount to a shed load of goals.
