With Liverpool sitting joint top of the Premier League, second to only Arsenal’s superior goal difference, but they could afford to trim some fringe players, in my opinion. Here are five I think Brendan Rodgers should show the Anfield doors.
1) Sebastian Coates
The giant defender is now 22, and with the wealth of talent Brendan Rodgers has at centre-back it looks unlikely that the Uruguayan will get a look in any time soon.
So far he has made 12 appearances for the club, but he’s currently rotting in the reserves. Rodgers should look to move him on in January.
2) Joe Allen
The Welshman’s time in Merseyside has been a mixed affair and he has found himself on the fringes this season as Lucas and Steven Gerrard patrol the central positions.
After 37 games last season, Allen has played just twice this time round as Liverpool sit joint top. With money reportedly available to spend in January it’s likely that Rodgers will bulk up his midfield, and Allen could find himself pushed even further away from the first team picture.
3) Brad Jones
While Simon Mignolet has come in and shored up the position between the sticks, Brad Jones has continued his stint on the bench. The Aussie won’t be at Anfield for much longer, I wouldn’t have thought.
4) Fabio Borini
Currently on loan at Sunderland, the Italian hasn’t done enough to convince the Scousers that he has a future at the club.
He has so far played two games for the Black Cats and failed to score.
5) Oussama Assaidi
The Morocco international has played just 12 games for the club since his switch from Heerenveen last year and has since been shipped on loan to Stoke. At 25, Assaidi hardly fits in with Rodgers’ ethos and the loan deal suggests that he doesn’t feature in his plans.
