Putting all the doom and gloom of our international side behind me, here are five reasons to be excited for the England national team.
1) Roy Hodgson
The wily old gaffer knows exactly what he is doing. He has been in charge of hundreds of games and steered other nations – with less talent – to success. Forget Redknapp, Roy Hodgson is the man to lead England back to the glory days, and I for one will get behind him whatever the occasion.
2) World Cup
We are on the brink of securing our space in the Brazil World Cup next year to pit out wits against the best on the planet. If that doesn’t excite you, nothing will.
I am certain we will see off Poland on Tuesday and book our places on the planes, and we can use the next months to relax, take a break and then really get to grips with what we need to achieve.
3) Andros Townsend
The young Spurs winger is setting the Premier League alight right now and showcased his talent on the international stage on his debut against Montenegro.
Okay, they’re not the strongest nation on the planet, but he’s a thrilling player to watch.
4) Youth
We have the likes of Ross Barkley, Jonjo Shelvey, Wilfried Zaha, Jack Butland, Steven Caulker and Phil Jones coming through as the next wave of players.
5) Passion
We have always been a passionate nation, and although we sometimes show that through the wrong channels of emotion, we are proud of where we come from. Be proud, be loud, be English.
