If you thought Mesut Ozil was enough to keep Arsene Wenger this season, you were wrong, apparently. No, £40m+ for one of the finest players on the planet can’t stop this wily old Frenchman from scouting some other silky playmakers, if you are to believe talkSPORT, as they suggest that £10m Verona midfielder Jorginho is on Wenger’s wish list.
The 21-year-old has caught the boss’ attention with his typically-Brazilian performances for Italian side Verona and could be mixing it amongst the best, and Jack Wilshere, come the new year.
But who is he, I hear you scream. Well, lucky for you, we know a thing or two about Jorge Luiz Frello.
The Brazil-born Italy U21 representative is a midfield player who is most comfortable in a central position, though he can roam into the wider areas of the pitch. He has the touch of a Spaniard, the discipline of an Italian and the silk of a South American. Combine those attributes, as well as the creativity and determination of a German, and you have the cocktail of a very fine player.
He is slight of frame with rapid feet, both on and off the ball, and can pick a pass beautifully. He has played seven Serie A games this season and scored three goals, and has also created 11 chances. He has even averaged four defensive actions per game this term, which is handy.
Will Arsene Wenger get his man in January? Will Arsenal fans accept him? Can the Gunners sustain a realistic title challenge? What do you think?
