With Manchester United continuing their struggle in the Premier League this season with a 1-1 draw with Southampton at the weekend, here are 10 players who could rescue United’s season in January.
1) Robert Lewandowski – Borussia Dortmund
The Poland international has made waves over the last few years for his goals at Dortmund. His 25 goals last season have been followed by eight in 11 games this, Bundesliga and Champions League combined, and would add some extra firepower to Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie. It may spell the end for Javier Hernandez, however.
2) Equalim Mangala – Porto
The powerhouse defender has been a target for Chelsea for some time now but United would do well to secure his signature. He is more dominant that Vidic in the air and better with the ball than Rio Ferdinand.
3) Ander Herrera – Athletic Bilbao
After failing with a summer move for the Spaniard it is said that Moyes will go back in during the next transfer window. A creative, technically-brilliant central midfielder.
4) Ross Barkley – Everton
England’s next big thing, according to most. The Everton midfielder is having an incredible season and would shore up United’s midfield.
5) Alex Song – Barcelona
Tackling and passing are Song is known for, and coincidently is what some United fans are seeking in their side. Song is out of favour at Barcelona and is said to be open to a move back to England.
6) Lars Bender – Bayer Leverkusen
The German midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time now. Once dubbed the next Steven Gerrard, the German’s athleticism and technique would benefit United hugely.
7) Kyriakos Papadopoulos -Schalke
The giant Greek centre-back would add some much needed youth into the side. The ideal replacement for Ferdinand, in my opinion.
8) Leighton Baines – Everton
It’s got to happen at some point, hasn’t it? Baines has established himself as one of the top left-backs in world football and Moyes is seemingly desperate to get him to Old Trafford.
9) Luka Modric – Real Madrid
The former Spurs midfielder is exactly what United need. He’s creative, brave and open to tracking back.
10) Juan Mata – Chelsea
Chelsea seem to have mess the Spaniard round this season, and if United can get into a more respectable position in the league then a promise of first team football could tempt him north of the capital.
