5 reasons why Manchester United should be looking to offload winger with measly 30% take on success

It’s time for Manchester United to start shedding the deadwood, in my eyes, and that should start with Ashley Young. Here are 5 reasons that the former Aston Villa winger should be offloaded in January.

1) Shinji Kagawa

The little Japan international had a storming season last time out but has hardly had a sniff in the United side this season. The fact that Young has made four appearances while Kagawa has made just one is an outrage, in my opinion, and needs to change.

2) Take Ons

The main duties of a winger is to collect the ball at their feet and run at opposing full-backs. Young does that, but he very rarely gets the better of them and if often embarrassed – either by the defender themselves or by tripping over his own feet.

Young has completed just 3/10 of his take ons this season.

3) Wilfried Zaha

Following on from that, United have a ready made replacement in their ranks in the shape of Wilfried Zaha. The former Crystal Palace man is one of the most positive wingers in the country and will run at defenders for fun. He has the tricks, the pace and the mentality to replace Young.

4) Lack of creativity        

Another aspect of a winger’s game is to creat opportunity from the wide areas, something which Young doesn’t do. He has created just three assists in the 23 games that he has played since the start of last season.

5) Antonio Valencia

The Colombian has made six appearances this season, and although he has only made six key passes, he has claimed an assist and has offered a lot more in both attack and defensive duties. Young’s presence results in a smaller chance of Valencia being in the side.
