5 Ligue 1 Players Who Could Improve The Newcastle Squad

With nine Frenchman in the first team, and another out on loan, here are five Ligue 1 players that could potentially improve Newcastle’s season should they sign in January.

1) Christian Bruls – Nice

The 25-year-old can play anywhere across the attacking midfield options but is most comfortable in the central role as a traditional number 10. This season has been a strong one so far for the Frenchman – making 14 key passes, claiming three assists and scoring a goal.

2) Cheick Diabate – Bordeaux

A striker who thrives on playing the lone striker role, Diabate has scored six goals in just 11 appearances so far for his current club. He has had 34 shots at goal and displayed his prowess in the air on numerous occasions this term already. He would be ideal playing next to Loic Remy, in my eyes.

3) Clement Grenier – Lyon

The 22-year-old is a versatile attacker who can play either attacking midfield or on the left wing. He is a pacey  player with a bag of tricks and is willing to run at opposing full-backs. The directness of his play could really boost the Magpies.

4) Moustapha Byal Sall – Saint Etienne

The Senegalese defender is a colossus in every sense of the word. Possessing a physique that a professional wrestle would be proud of, the centre-back has made 19 interceptions this season in his seven appearances and also contributed 84 clearances, as well as completing 86% of his passes.

5) Papy Djilobodji – Nantes

Another Senegalese player now in the shape of Djilobodji who is also a centre-half. He has made 22 tackles, 30 interceptions and 97 clearances, and also possesses an intimidating presence.
