Few people had heard of Saido Berahino before he popped up to sink Manchester United in West Brom’s narrow 2-1 victory at Old Trafford this month, but now as he looks to be ready to sign a new contract, people are discussing whether or not he is worth one of the bigger sides taking a gamble on.
The 20-year-old is a real talent, and anyone who keeps a close eye on the youth set up within the England national side will agree. Despite being born in Burundi, Berahino has represented England right down from U16 level up to U21 where he has now scored four goals in three games.
He has also been tearing apart the League Cup. He has scored four goals in his two appearances in the competition, including a hat-trick against Newport County, and is generally making waves as an exciting youngster coming through the ranks at a Premier League club.
This is something that the big boys tend to jump on, with Manchester United and Arsenal the most renowned for doing so. An impressive asset that the young forard can boast is his determination to get back and help with the more defensive side of the game – he has averaged a defensive contribution each game and has completed 4/4 of his tackles.
He has the pace, the confidence and most importantly the ability to have a long successful career at the top of football, and in my opinion he is good enough to be snapped up by one of the top eight sides in the league.
