It has often been discussed that if Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi wasn’t around, the world of football fans would be of the same opinion that Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest player ever to play the game. And whether or not you agree with that statement, Messi is around, and has had Ronaldo playing in his shadow for some time now.
Ronaldo picked up his first and only Ballon d’Or back in 2008 but Messi has won it every year since. The little Argentine has dazzled us all with his nifty footwork and creative approach to the game, not to mention the ridiculous amount of goals that he’s scored.
It seems extraordinary that he has scored 325 goals in 392 games for his boyhood club and a further 37 in 83 for Argentina, but he really is that good.
Ronaldo has also sparkled in La Liga, scoring more goals than he has played games for Real Madrid. Crazy, no? The Portugal international’s record currently stands at 216 goals in 212 appearances, but his remarkable goal scoring record may not win him the Ballon d’Or this year, as Franck Ribery looks to be in with a real shot of claiming the accolade after helping Bayern Munich win a historic treble.
Whoever wins, be it Ronaldo, Messi or Ribery, it seems as though Ronaldo has sent a warning to his opponents with a song. Enjoy.
