When you’re trying to cut the mustard at Barcelona, on ofthe biggest clubs in the world, it is always going to be extremely difficult. Sergi Roberto’s path to glory has been no different, coming through the Barca youth system and progressing his way through the B side. He represented Barcelona B over 100 times before eventually graduating to the senior side, where he has now played 15 times, much to his credit.
Now at 21, and with the taste of topflight action, the Daily Star are reporting that both Liverpool and Tottenham are interested in giving the Spaniard a new lease of life.
But what could he offer them?
Roberto is a central midfielder who excels in the passing game. His slight frame means he holds almost no physical presence in the midriff, not is he the most forceful in the tackle, but his technique in the pass and the way he nips past defenders is brilliant to watch.
He’s a quick, agile player who would work brilliantly with a defensive player behind him – perhaps Lucas Leiva or Sandro in this case. His dynamic spurts up the field are a real threat because of his willingness to run at players and have a pop.
Roberto has completed 90% of his passes so far this season in his three La Liga appearances, but will we be seeing him in the English topflight soon?
