5 Marouane Fellaini Alternatives For Manchester United To Consider

It was always going to be a virtual mission impossible for David Moyes to fill Sir Alex Ferguson’s shoes, but some of the decisions that have been made in his short tenure have been baffling to say the least. What is painfully obvious is Manchester United’s lack of creativity in midfield which needs desperate attention in the January transfer window.

Marouane Fellaini was a very good player at Everton – strong, good in the air and in the tackle and chipped in with his fair share of goals.

However, since his arrival at Old Trafford his stock has continued to plummet and clearly he is not the answer to the Red Devils prayers. Has he been a L’Oreal signing at £25 million? Who exactly should David Moyes be targeting to provide that spark of genius to ignite the below par champions this season? Herrera? Marchisio? Sneijder? De Rossi? Those players would seem to be the preferred choice, but what are the alternatives should these be unavailable?

Bruma (Galatasaray)

The young Portuguese starlet, who has been dubbed the next Ronaldo due to a very similar style of play and having also burst onto the scene at Sporting Lisbon. He is quick, agile, and technically gifted and can play in a variety of midfield positions.

Kevin De Bruyne (Chelsea)

The Belgian ace has barely had a kick since his summer move to Stamford Bridge and there are rumours that he is somewhat unsettled and frustrated with his limited first team appearances. He is quick, creative and can score goals and with youth and exuberance on his side he could be a very useful addition.

Juan Mata (Chelsea)

The Spanish maestro has been largely second choice this season under Mourinho and could fancy a change of scenery to gain regular first team football. Mata can score goals from inside and outside the box, unlock defences with a single pass and is not shy of working hard for the team. Moyes would have to work hard to land the Spaniard but he could be the solution to United’s midfield problem?

Marco Veratti (PSG)

The versatile Italian who has drawn comparisons with Andrea Pirlo is a playmaker who can also be meaty in the tackle. Limited opportunities at the Parisian giants this season could mean he would be tempted by a loan move in the January window.

İlkay Gündoğan (Borussia Dortmund)

The speedy Turkish international lit up the Champions League with his infectious enthusiasm and industry in the heart of the Dortmund midfield last season. However, the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan has seen Gündoğan become surplus to requirements so far this term and the lack of regular playing time may force him to look elsewhere.
