Why I’d Like To See Micah Richards In An Arsenal Shirt

Being an Arsenal season ticket holder and keen traveller to away games, there isn’t much that I can complain about this season. However, if there was one thing that I would suggest needed improving, it would be the fact that our defence has looked wobbly.

Per Mertesacker is a giant of a man and has been the outstanding figure in the Gunners side. With the former Wolfsburg defender out with an illness for the big game against Manchester United there were a lot of who was worried, but Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen stepping up to the mark it has filled me with confidence.

However, the Mirror are reporting the club with a move for Micah Richards, who I think could be the perfect addition. Not only is the bulky England international a supposed lifelong Gooner, but he would also offer flexibility and a sense of solidity.

He can play either right-back or centre-back and is a real giant in the air. Should Bacary Sagna choose to leave the club this season then we will be on the lookout for a replacement, and I don’t think there are many more suited to the role than this man.

He’s powerful, he’s quick and he is good in the tackle. He has only played twice so far in the Premier League season, winning 6/7 of his headers and completing 90% of his passes. Should there be a chance of capturing his signature then I hope Wenger takes that.
