Brendan Rodgers is a man who likes to dabble with his tactics. Each week we learn something about the Northern Irish manager and the way he likes to play the game, and recently it’s been his 3-5-2 formation. It takes a special kind of player to operate in a backline like this and everyone needs to be on the same page, but unfortunately some have proved that they’re not. I’m talking about summer acquisition Aly Cissokho.
The Frenchman arrived on a season-long loan from Valencia with a view to signing permanently at the end of it, but right now there are few Liverpool fans who want that to happen.
He is a left-back who has been deployed down the flank this season, and although he is effective bombing down the wing, he has next to no end product and is sluggish at tracking back.
He looks unfit, uninterested and ultimately unable to fulfil the duties that Rodgers desires.
He was arguably at fault for both of Newcastle‘s goals when Liverpool travelled to St James Park recently and again down at Arsenal. He made no attempt whatsoever to stop Bacary Sagna from whipping a ball into the box, which Santi Cazorla eventually scored from, and some Reds fans are praying for the return of Jose Enrique.
Whether or not he will come good we will have to wait and see, but right now it looks as though he’s not cut out for the Premier League.
