7 Players In The Turkish Topflight Who Should Be Premier League Targets

Following on from my piece on the Championship, I am now going to take a look at the Super Lig which, for those of you that don’t know, is the Turkish premier division. Now, Turkey do have a reputation in Europe as being quite a big league with a few teams known to cause problems. Galatasaray and Fenerbache are the main teams in the league. Besiktas should be known to a few of you as well, as Trabzonspor and Bursaspor who have all featured in the Europa League.

It’s a passionate league because the fans make it so. The rivalry between Galatasaray and Fenerbache is legendary in European football as being violent but also very atmospheric due to excessive chanting and the use of flares. This has made the league an attractive place for a player to visit and they have a rich import of players from all the top divisions because of it. Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder both turn out for their respective clubs in Turkey. Anyway, down to my list:

1. Moussa Sow

The former Lille frontman was in fantastic form before joining Fenerbache. He scored 25 goals in 36 games the season before he left. He has attracted plenty of interest from the Premier League with Tottenham, Sunderland and Southampton all establishing a link between them and the player at some point or another, although nothing came of the whispers.

2. Burak Yilmaz

The Turkish star is an incredibly prolific striker and has been for a few years which has prompted interest from both Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. 37 goals in 47 appearances last season in all competitions are some remarkable statistics. Eight were scored in the Champions League as well. Any club would be lucky to have the 28 year old who seems to score for fun.

3. Emmanuel Emineke

The Nigerian is another quality striker that has plenty of strength, pace and power to make a big impact in the Premier League some day. He can frighten the life out of defenders due to his size. He has International and Champions League experience to throw in as well.

4. Wesley Sneijder

Well we all know about Sneijder and what he’s capable of. A very creative midfielder that can unlock defences with ease. Chelsea held a very strong interest in him throughout the summer but nothing transpired. He’s sill available and will be a coup if anyone can pick him up.

5. Bruma

The 19-year-old is higly rated in Turkey. He is a winger by trait but can play elsewhere across the front line making him a very useful player. Not much to report in terms of team contribution as he only has 2 assists but he’s still making full-backs look average week in week out.

6. Tomas Sivok

The Czech Republic international has been a consistent performer for Besiktas for a number of years now after his rise to fame while playing for Sparta Prague. He was on loan at Udinese at the time. In 2008, Besiktas signed him for just under £5 million and the player hasn’t looked back since.

7. Erkin Caner

Fenerbache’s left midfielder has been one of the most creative players in Europe this season as he’s registered a huge 8 assists in just 10 games. His rise to prominence has been fast after picking up form after the summer of 2011 and his market value has shot up since then.
