Why Bendtner Is More Important To Arsenal Than Some People Think

When Nicklas Bendtner suggested that his next move would be to either Barcelona or Real Madrid, the nation erupted with laugher and the Spanish were left asking each other who this joker was. The comments may have been made tongue in cheek as he continues his search for a new club in the new year, but things don’t always go to plan.

Arsene Wenger showed in the new year that it’s not that easy to land a big money striker, hence Bendtner is still at the club as cover for Olivier Giroud. The names mentioned over the summer months were Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain, while they have now changed to the likes of Pato and Christian Benteke. But should the Gunners fail to land another forward in the January transfer window then Bendtner will have no choice but to pull his socks up.

He has made five appearances this season, all as a substitute,  and offered little, but the north London side’s title hopes could hinge on him if the situation above arises.

Giroud is looking tired already because of the amount of games he has played, and Bendtner is currently the only viable back up. His role will be to fill a gap when Giroud needs a rest, or perhaps support Theo Walcott as Wenger tries to keep Giroud in form in front of goal.

Arsenal fans may laugh at the Denmark international and wonder if Arsenal should keep hold of him, but should Arsenal fail to land a striker in January then his importance could be huge.
