They say that Italian football is all about the tactics, the technique and the passionate fans, and I’d agree with whoever ‘they’ are. Serie A is the home to some beautiful football and currently holds some of the most impressive players on the European stage. It’s one of those players who I think Manchester United should be going for, and here’s why.
Riccardo Montilivo is the man I suggest as he is a central midfielder who has all the attributes that David Moyes should be looking for to secure his midriff.
The AC Milan player has averaged a remarkable 73.2 passes per game in the Italian topflight this season in his nine appearances, which only team-mate Nigel De Jong (73.4) and Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini (73.5) have bettered.
He is a central player who is happy to roam from box to box but is arguably more comfortable when holding. He has averaged seven defensive actions per game so far this time round and completed 81% of his passes, as well as winning 63% of his headers.
The reason I have suggested a slightly more defensive player is so that Carrick is allowed to drift into more advanced areas to utilise his passing. He’s also got one heck of a shot on him, but he often struggles to find the opportunities to show us.
United fans, would you like to see the Italian in your side?
