On The Brink: 5 Managers Who Could Be Next For The Sack

This weekend saw the sackings of Martin Jol at Fulham, Dave Jones at Sheffield Wednesday, Owen Coyle at Wigan and Richis Barker at Crawley Town and Guy Whittingham at Portsmouth at the end of last week. We are at the cut-throat stage of the season, so here are five managers who I think could be in line for the boot.

1) Steve Davis – Crewe

The former Alex player has been in charge of the League One club since 2011 and guided them to the Football League Trophy last season but this time round they have won just four games from 19 and are sat in the bottom four. From their last six games in the league they have collected just four points and have a goal difference of -8.

2) Gianfranco Zola – Watford

The Italian has seen his side nosedive in confidence since losing to Crystal Palace in the play-off finals in May. His side now sit in 10th in the league without a win in six, losing their last four home games. They travel to second place Burnley tomorrow night.

3) Paul Cox – Mansfield

Although he was handed a top of the range sports car by the chairman for overseeing an 8-1 win last season, the club are now in a slump of 10 league games without a win and are rapidly falling down the table.

4) Aidy Boothroyd – Northampton Town

Once a Premier League manager with Watford, Boothroyd now sits in the bottom two of the Football League. Northampton have picked up a little bit recently, but if they don’t improve their form then you get the feeling he will be out the door.

5) Chris Powell – Charlton Athletic

Many had the London club as a dark horse in the Championship this season but after just four wins from 17 games Charlton sit in 20th, just a handful of points above the drop zone.
