Tottenham beat Anzhi Makhachkala 4-1 in their final group game in the Europa league last night – here are five things we learned from the tie.
1) Soldado can score
The Spaniard has struggled for goals this season as a result of some problems with linking up with team-mates, but his hat-trick against Anzhi has silenced the doubters. He had four shots on goal, three of which went in and the other hitting the target, and excelled in general.
2) Townsend can mix it up
Although the winger can be predictable at times, he mixed it up last night. He whipped in 12 crosses during the game, had five shots and completed 80% of his passes in general.
3) Capoue can cover at centre-back
The midfielder has found himself filling in at centre-back over the last few games and he’s done a fine job. He reads the game well and injects calm into the defence – he completed 96% of his passes, won three tackles and made three clearances.
4) Spurs are challengers
The north London club finished the group with six wins from six and a +18 goal difference. Spurs will be excited about the next round and will fancy their chances of winning the tournament.
5) Spus are pass masters
During the game Tottenham completed 438 of their 488 attempted passes, which is a 90% completion rate.
