THREE Liverpool Players Who Should Lose Their Place For Chelsea Clash

Liverpool were top of the league on Christmas day and the fans are rightly excited for the rest of the season. Their title challenge took a bit of a wobble yesterday afternoon though as they lost away to Manchester City, which is nothing to be ashamed of, but there were a few players who stood out for the wrong reasons. Here are three players who I think deserve to be dropped for Liverpool’s clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

1) Glen Johnson

The right-back was all over the shop against City, and although their attack is incredible, Johnson will either have to pull his socks up or face losing his place in the side against his former club. The Reds have a number of players who can play at full-back and Johnson will be lucky to keep his place, in my eyes.

He made just two tackles, misplaced both of his crosses and lost his only headed duel of the match.

2) Joe Allen

Chelsea are remarkably strong in the middle of the pitch and Liverpool cannot afford any passengers going into the tie. Sadly, if there was one word that I would use to describe Allen, it would probably be passenger. Some will say that he’s an underrated part of the team who keeps things moving, but he’s largely ineffective and I think he restricts how Liverpool move as a unit.

He’s slow on the ball, he’s predictable and rarely beats his marker.

3) Philippe Coutinho

This may seem a silly suggestion considering that he scored, but his goal was somewhat snatched off the toe of Raheem Sterling who did the hard work, and his overall display left a lot to be desired.

It was always going to be difficult for him going up against such powerful opposition, but he made just 21 passes, misplaced all five of his crosses and won just one take on all game. I am scared that it could happen again against Jose Mourinho’s side.
