So, we are finally here – the January transfer window has arrived. For the next month our papers will be filled with stories about who is going where, and the Sun are kicking things off today with a story on Dimitar Berbatov. The reports say that the Fulham forward is closing in on a move to Arsenal, which, if we’re honest, is no real surprise. Here is why it could be the perfect move.
Arsene Wenger has only Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner to choose from right now in terms of out and out strikers, so in my mind another needs to come in. The north London side are packed with creativity in the midfield areas in such players as Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey, and to link nicely with their fluid attacking movements you need a clever player.
They don’t come much better at that than Berbatov. His touch is remarkable, the way he can carve a defence with a single flick is mind-blowing, and his movement is second to none.
Last season he scored 15 league goals with Fulham, and although he’s scored just four in his 15 outings this time, should he move to a club with better support behind him on the field then I have no doubt that he will up his game.
Imagine him linking up with Ozil. Soothing, isn’t it?
