After another incredible Saturday in the Premier League where we saw all teams play, here is my team of the day from the English top tier.
Ben Foster – West Brom
The Baggies keeper was one of just four who kept a clean sheet today despite all 20 teams playing. He made two brilliant saves to deny Newcastle and generally bossed his area throughout.
Defenders
Bacary Sagna – Arsenal
Arsenal battered Cardiff but were only able to break the deadlock in the final minutes. From the back they were solid, and Sagna was a big part of that – he made five clearances, won three headers and had three shots.
Vincent Kompany – Manchester City
The City skipper made 11 clearances during the tie with Swansea and won both of his take ons, while organising the backline throughout.
Daniel Agger – Liverpool
The Dane got himself on the scoresheet in the Reds’ game with Hull today and put in a sterling performance at Anfield. Agger made 13 clearances, won four headers and completed 89% of his passes.
Leighton Baines – Everton
Te left-back did well considering he had just returned from injury and helped the Toffees in both defence and attack greatly.
Midfielders
Theo Walcott – Arsenal
Walcott had eight shots, scored once, completed 5 of his eight crosses and completed 92% of his tackles. He also won three of his five take ons.
Bradley Johnson – Norwich
The Canaries midfielder grabbed a goal against Crystal Palace today to crown a magnificent overall display.
Christian Eriksen – Tottenham
The playmaker ran the show up at Old Trafford as Spurs their second game at Manchester United in consecutive fixtures. He scored once and provided the cross for Emmanuel Adebayor’s goal.
Oscar – Chelsea
The little Brazilian put in a scintillating performance against Southampton today, scoring a lovely goal.
Forwards
Wilfried Bony – Swansea
The Swans forward scored two brilliant goals against Manchester City this afternoon and showed why they splashed out on him in the summer. He won five headers, won 100% of his take ons and made two clearances.
Luis Suarez – Liverpool
The little South American scored his 20th league goal of the campaign today in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Hull. He has started life in 2014 as he left it last year, scoring screamers.
